Library gadgets

This is (a short) list of Firefox tools and extensions -- gadgets -- enabling you to take greater advantage of the Libraries resources. They only function if you are using the Firefox browser. Alas.

Search Bar tools

These tools will become selectable items in your browser's Search Bar. Click on the links to install them:

The following two Search Bar tools come from the folks of OCLC, and they are copied here for convenience. Consider also visiting OCLC's site where the originals can be found:

Here is Search Bar tool that will allow you to search the University of Notre Dame name (LDAP) directory:

Just about any Internet-accessible database can be retrofitted as a Search Bar item. If you have something you would like to be configured in this way, then just drop me a line, and I will see what I can do.

Extensions

These things provide additional, seamless functionality to your Firefox browser.

openurl referrer For example, download and install the Openly's OpenURL Referrer. This extension provides "link resolving" functionality between the content of Google Scholar and the full-text content available from the Libraries. After installation you will need to select Tools > Extensions > OpenURL Referrer from Firefox's menu. You will then need to edit the resulting dialog box to point it to the library's OpenURL resolver (SFX). The folks at Openly describe this process in more detail, and when you have finished the dialog box should look something like the image to the right.

Once configured you should be able to search Google Scholar and link to the majority of content available from the results.
